چکیده

Cyclic Potentiodynamic polarization studies were conducted to compare the corrosion resistance of Nitinol cardiovascular stents and stainless steel stents. The tests is to simulate the corrosion behavior of the stents under body condition using Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) solution at 37C and following the ASTM F2129-01, Item 2, WK1749, Standard. The results of this study indicate that both NiTi and SS stents exhibit high corrosion resistance in the PBS solution. The SS stents show slightly better corrosion resistance than the Nitinol stents. The electropolished Nitinol stents appear to have slightly better corrosion resistance compared with the unpolished ones.

Similarities and differences in coatings for magnesium-based stents and orthopaedic implants

Magnesium (Mg)-based biodegradable materials are promising candidates for the new generation of implantable medical devices, particularly cardiovascular stents and orthopaedic implants. Mg-based cardiovascular stents represent the most innovative stent technology to date. However, these products still do not fully meet clinical requirements with regards to fast degradation rates, late restenosi...

A corrosion model for bioabsorbable metallic stents.

In this study a numerical model is developed to predict the effects of corrosion on the mechanical integrity of bioabsorbable metallic stents. To calibrate the model, the effects of corrosion on the integrity of biodegradable metallic foils are assessed experimentally. In addition, the effects of mechanical loading on the corrosion behaviour of the foil samples are determined. A phenomenologica...

Biodegradable Metals for Cardiovascular Stent Application: Interests and New Opportunities

During the last decade, biodegradable metallic stents have been developed and investigated as alternatives for the currently-used permanent cardiovascular stents. Degradable metallic materials could potentially replace corrosion-resistant metals currently used for stent application as it has been shown that the role of stenting is temporary and limited to a period of 6-12 months after implantat...

Comparative study of the corrosion behavior of peripheral stents in an accelerated corrosion model: experimental in vitro study of 28 metallic vascular endoprostheses.

PURPOSE Clinical cases of stent-fractures show that corrosion behavior might play a role in these fractures. Implanted in vivo, especially in combination with other implanted foreign materials, these metallic products are exposed to special conditions, which can cause a process of corrosion. Here, we aimed to test the corrosion potential of stents made of different materials in an in vitro sett...
